Ocean Jasper is a trademarked name for a multicolored stone found in Madagascar. Enter the Earth (find your way to their website for more information) became the trademark owner in 2022. The stone comes in multiple colors and most have a spherical pattern. Ocean Jasper is found in 2 mines located in Madagascar which are about 10 miles apart. Only materials coming from these mines can be called Ocean Jasper.
An alternative name and the name which should be used if origins cannot be traced to a location is Orbicular Jasper. Orbicular Jasper can be found in Madagascar, Russia, Serbia, and the United States. According to Mindat, org Orbicular Jasper is highly silicified Rhyolite that has Quartz and Feldspar crystalized which form the orbicular structures of the stone. Most research today suggests Ocean Jasper/Orbicular Jasper is actually a Chalcedony as opposed to Jasper.
One thing is certain the stone comes in a beautiful array of colors and patterns that make it a very interesting part of any collection.
